Angie Alwine

Accounting Major

Hometown:  Jenners, Pennsylvania

Background
Angie grew up in the very small town of Jenners, which is less than a mile in size.  Her goal is to work for an accounting firm or for the state.

Why IUP
She transferred from Penn State because it didn't have the type of program that interested her.  Her sister was already studying accounting at IUP, so she visited the campus.  The instructors were helpful and allowed her to sit in on a few classes.  The people were friendly, she already had friends here, and it was closer to home.  IUP was a good fit for her.

School Stuff
When asked why someone would willingly enter into the study of accounting, she replied, "I don't know.  I just like it."  Since her sister already studied accounting, Angie had an understanding of it.  In the summer of 2003, she participated in an accounting internship at Hershey Park near Harrisburg.  Setting the work that she did there aside, what made that experience worthwhile was simply being in a different place and making new friends.

Angie recommends taking online courses if something wouldn't normally jive with your schedule.  She's able to take the class in her pajamas and wherever or whenever she can.

Things You Do
A lot of her time outside of the classroom is spent hanging out with her friends.  One of Angie's fonder memories is of her and her best friend, Annie, running around the track in the rain, jumping in puddles... barefoot.

She lives in off-campus housing with five other girls and, thankfully, she gets along with all of them.  "You really have to experience it to understand."  There can be good experiences with that and, then, there can be bad experiences.  The best thing is to know your rights as a tenant and respect other people's property.

Around Here
She loves some of the bands that have visited IUP such as the O.A.R. concert and the free Rusted Root concert at the Pre-exam Jam 2003.  And, of course, Homecoming is always a fun time.
