The Foundation for IUP is a tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954, as amended. Gifts made to the Foundation are deductible as charitable contributions under Section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code.

About the Foundation
On October 16, 1967, the Foundation for IUP was incorporated under the
provisions of the Pennsylvania Nonprofit Corporation Law. Four days later,
on October 20, its directors and officers met for the first time to begin
mapping strategy for acquiring private support to enhance the programs
offered at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

The Foundation's impact in helping the university become the only public
university in Pennsylvania classified by the Carnegie Foundation Advancement of Teaching as a doctoral/research intensive university is expected to last for many years to come. Private dollars from generous individuals and corporate friends including faculty, staff, and alumni are providing a margin of excellence, establishing IUP as a university of national significance.

IUP was designated as a university in 1965. Inherent to university status
was a need to invest in programs that would contribute to the quality of the university. During these same years, decreases in public funding became a reality for all state universities. The creation of the Foundation in response to these circumstances has served as a powerful force in making IUP a university of distinction.
