Scholarships for Incoming Freshmen

IUP Alumni Association Scholarship 
Awards are made to outstanding incoming freshman students with preference given to children or dependents of IUP alumni.

Elizabeth LaVelle Memorial Scholarship Fund
Awarded to entering full-time freshmen majoring in Hospitality Management and in Food & Nutrition. The award is based on financial need and scholastic ability and is available for four consecutive years. An SAT minimum score of 1000 is necessary; an overall GPA of 3.0, at the end of each spring semester, is required to remain eligible.

A. Laura Mateer Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to an entering freshman in the top 25 percent of his/her high school class who is majoring in Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management. Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA to retain the scholarship.

Susan Spurlin Peckman Memorial Scholarship
Granted to an incoming freshman Nursing major who displays financial need and has at least a high school “B” average. Preference will be given to students from Indiana High School, Marion Center High School, or Woodland Hills High School. If no qualified entering freshman students are nominated, the award may be given to an upper-class student, enrolled in the program within the stated geographic area, who meets the initial criteria.

Kay Staszkiewicz Memorial Scholarship for Nursing 
Established to honor and recognize the value Mrs. Staszkiewicz had for education and her profession of nursing, this scholarship is awarded to outstanding students in the Department of Nursing and Allied Health.

David Willard Memorial Scholarship 
This award is presented to a student in the Department of Industrial and Labor Relations who demonstrates outstanding academic achievement and professional promise.

Scholarships for Currently Enrolled Students

Grace J. Allman Safety Science Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a senior with a minimum of a 2.75 GPA. A GPA of 3.0 is required in the following courses: SA301, 303, and 402. The student must demonstrate academic achievement and promise for success in the safety science field.

Ella C. Bendix Home Economics Loan Fund
Awarded to worthy full-time or part-time students with financial need who are juniors, seniors, or first-year graduate students in the School of Home Economics. The Home Economics Scholarship Committee makes the selection.

Alexa J. Boyer Emerick Scholarship
Awarded to a deserving and outstanding full-time junior or senior (with 57 to 90 credits) enrolled in the nursing program with a GPA of 3.0 (minimum). The student must demonstrate participation in school and/or community activities plus a commitment to serving/assisting others.

Eleanor Gallati Scholarship
Awarded to deserving majors in Home Economics Education and in Child Development/Family Relations.

William G. Gressley Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a student with a declared major in Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management; 25 or more credits; and a GPA of 2.5 (minimum). The recipient must be an active participant in department activities.

Hoss’s Steak and Seafood House Scholarship
The scholarship is awarded each year to students in the Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management department.

Eugene E. Lepley Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a junior or senior (preferably a senior) with a minimum GPA of 3.0. The student must demonstrate social responsibility by involvement in community/volunteer activities and complete a brief narrative describing future plans and aspirations relative to the general field of health and physical education. Majors in Health and Physical Education and Sport Science are considered.

M. Jane Segar Longenecker Scholarship
Awarded to full-time students who have achieved junior standing and have a minimum 3.5 GPA. Students must be majoring in Home Economics Education or Child Development Family Relations.

Ann McCauley Memorial Scholarship for Respiratory Care 
This award is presented to a student graduating from the Western Pennsylvania Hospital School of Respiratory Therapy in recognition of outstanding academic achievement, promise for professional success, and demonstrated compassionate care for patients.

Marian A. Murray Scholarship
Awarded to a graduate student in the field of Nursing. Scholarship is based on academic achievement and professional involvement. The Department of Nursing faculty shall make selection for the annual award.

Ethyl V. Oxley, Opal T. Rhodes, and Helen C. Merriman Scholarship
Awarded to students majoring in the Department of Human Development and Environmental Studies.

Pittsburgh Home Economics Teachers Scholarship
Awarded to an undergraduate student majoring in a program in the College of Health and Human Services who graduated from one of the Pittsburgh Public Schools. Preference given to students majoring in Home Economics Education; the award may also be given to a junior or a sophomore student enrolled in any Human Services major who is deserving both scholastically and financially.

John J. Prandy Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship provides support to a worthy and deserving Criminology major who has achieved junior standing (56 to 90 credits) and has expressed interest in pursuing a career in law enforcement. A 3.0 GPA overall is required. The recipient must also demonstrate involvement in community and/or campus activities involving children and their welfare.

Ella B. Seanor Leadership in Nursing Scholarship
Award presented to graduating senior who has successfully completed the requirements for a degree in Nursing and who has demonstrated exemplary leadership and commitment to the high standards of professional practices in nursing. (3.0 GPA required)

Susan E. Shubra Scholarship
Awarded to a junior or senior with at least one remaining term who is majoring in Consumer Affairs, Fashion Merchandising, or Interior Design/Housing within the Department of Consumer Services. Applicants must be of good behavior and demonstrate outstanding achievement in academics and leadership in university/community services. Consideration is given to financial need.

Kay Staszkiewicz Memorial Scholarship for Nursing 
Established to honor and recognize the value Mrs. Staszkiewicz had for education and her profession of nursing, this scholarship is awarded to outstanding students in the Department of Nursing and Allied Health.

Gregory Spinelli Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to students who show exceptional promise and commitment to a career in the criminal justice system.

Student Nursing Awards 
Awarded to undergraduate or graduate students. Criteria for awards and selection of recipients are at the discretion of the faculty in the Department of Nursing and Allied Health Professions.

Jacquelin Alexis Watson Memorial Scholarship 
Established in memory of a student from Montoursville High School who was tragically killed on TWA Flight 800, this scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in the Department of Criminology who has earned at least 24 credit hours. Preference is given to female candidates.

David Willard Memorial Scholarship 
This award is presented to a student in the Department of Industrial & Labor Relations who demonstrates outstanding academic achievement and professional promise.

Betty Wood Scholarship
Awarded to a full-time student (junior standing) in Consumer Affairs, Fashion Merchandising, or Interior Design/Housing within the Department of Human Development and Environmental Studies. Student must demonstrate the highest professional manner. Minimum of 3.0 GPA. Students must be of good character and must demonstrate outstanding achievement in academics and leadership in university/community services. Consideration is given to financial need.

Ronald and Jean Zucchelli Scholarship
Awarded to an IUP student majoring in physical education. Preference will be given to female students.
