Summer Honors Program

Arts, sciences, and humanities fill a two-week session of learning and fun for high school students who participate in the IUP Summer Honors Program. Participants reside on campus and attend classes during they day. In past years, students have chosen from a list of courses consisting of Journalism, Biochemistry, Dance, Education, Philosophy, Music Performance, Media Analysis, Chemistry, Studio Art, and others. Participants also attend an abbreviated version of IUP's Honors Core Course.

During evening hours, after homework, students participate in activities, which have included in past years field trips, dinner with faculty members in their homes, talent shows, and more. A team of IUP student counselors coordinates the activities.

SHARE - Summer Honors Arts Resident Experience

SHARE - Summer Honors Arts Resident Experience
SHARE brings talented and deserving students to live on the IUP campus for a two-week arts immersion into musical theater, dance, singing, and the visual arts. ArtsPath and the IUP College of Fine Arts in partnership with the Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild and the IUP Robert E. Cook Honors College offer this residential summer experience for high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

Taught by IUP faculty members and accomplished professional artists, SHARE provides funding that covers the majority of the costs with tuition charged at a minimal rate. Those wishing to live on campus during the two weeks may do so for a nominal fee. There are also possibilities for further scholarships depending on additional funding that may be available.

Students wishing to apply must be nominated by a schoolteacher, minister, or administrator who is familiar with the student’s work. Scholarships are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Ideal Edge
Ideal Edge is a nonprofit organization that identifies at-risk youth and guides them through high school and into college. Strategies for realizing this vision include monthly counseling sessions, homework assistance, summer athletic camps, and college-based academic programs each summer. These programs are available throughout the four years of high school and lead directly to college application.

IUP is proud to be the summer home and academic collaborator of the Ideal Edge program. IUP facilities are used for athletic programs, and IUP faculty members provide instruction.

The IUP School of Continuing Education can provide more information. Call 724-357-2292, or contact Idea Edge directly at 717-805-4105.
